Hybrid Wall Treatment in OpenFOAM

Hi everyone,

In literature there is a lot of mention of blending low and high Re boundary conditions into hybrid wall functions. Several commercial codes also seem to be using this approach.

I've been reading up on some of the suggested approaches, but as I am fairly new to OpenFOAM I'm not sure how one would implement them.

Has anyone had a go at implementing such a model in OpenFOAM? Or do you have any suggestions where I could look?

Best regards,

Chris

Hi Christopher,
up to release 1.5, there weren't anything like hybrid wall threatment in OF, as the wall functions were designed all for Hi-Re models (moreover, there weren't many Low-Re RANS models in OF 1.5....).
But I take now a rapid look in 1.6 implementation of wall functions, and it seems that the k-Omega SST could be used as an hybrid model without changes, just choose if put fixedValue or wallFunction on k bc (I suppose, still not tested...).
Anyway, any contribution in the direction of hybrid wall treatment could help to make OF more user-friendly and applicable to a wider range of cases.
Have a nice day,
Ivan
