droplet simulation over flat plate
Hello foamers
I want to simulate droplet motion over hydrophobic flat plate under the effect of some forces (wind force , centrifugal force) using openfoam ,, any suggestions thank you for your help |
firstly i make a simulation of laminar flow over a sphere using snappyHexMesh utility and icoFoam solver , like in that photo
http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/2606/57410671.png http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/3572/49019718.png I have to rest that sphere on the lower wall (which is not a big deal ) just change the .stl file .. now ,I'm asking for the following : 1) how to make the sphere's mesh dynamic (the droplet should move on the lower wall under influence of air drag and centrifugal force) 2) how to make the sphere's mesh free surface mesh 3) how to capture the surface tension effects of the droplet near wall or near air thank you .. |
is it a hard case ? or it need new solver to be programmed !!
any one know , please tell me i don't have the programming capability to make a new solver thank you |
What you're looking for is the interTrackFoam solver. Take a look at the hydrofoil tutorial.. That should help you set up a test case.

Hi,
could you do that simulation. can you help me to simulate such a droplet?? thanks, Quote:

Hi,
take a look at http://powerlab.fsb.hr/ped/kturbo/Op..._30Nov2008.tgz and try to get it to work on your installation as a starter. I am not an expert in this topic, but I believe you will have to understand and work with the finite area method that is implemented in OpenFOAM. Sorry that I can not help you more. elvis |
hi,
thanks for your response elvis...I have installed OpenFoam1.6 on my computer. I think this file which you gave me is not compatible with my version. Would you please tell me how to fix it. for example..it can not recognize alpha1 or U or P...I think these variable is defined by other names like gamma, pd ...in OF1.4 am i right? Thanks for your help elvis, Mehran Quote:

Hey Mehran,
OpenFOAM-1.6 is the wrong choice. If you want to use the interTrackFoam solver, you will have to install OpenFOAM-1.5-dev (from here: http://openfoam-extend.svn.sourcefor...nd/trunk/Core/). Best, Andreas |
Hey, you mean for using the InterFoam solver, it s better to install the old version instead of OF1.6??
is this a better version version of OF? Thanks for your response. Mehran Quote:

Since you were talking about a moving mesh or at least about FAM (Finite Area Method) you will need interTrackFoam. This solver is only released in the previous mentioned OpenFOAM-1.5-dev.
In case of you now try to solve your issue with interFoam (no moving mesh, no FAM --> mesh is not fitted to the interface) you can either use 1.5-dev or 1.6. Which one is "better", I cannot say. I think it is almost the same - at least the method is equal. |
Thanks for your response..I will try this version...

to openfoam1 i wanna learn using OpenFOAM software and i want to solve the cross flow over sphere problem which you have solved above. but i m not familiar with snappyhexmesh so i can not create a spherical mesh. can you help me? thanks |
