Mesh quality control in Paraview/Openfoam

Hello!

I created a simple channel flow case in openfoam with a step in cross section. For the mesh I created 2 blocks with different meshes at the interface between the blocks. Then I applied the "MergePatchPairs" command in blockMesh. The user manual says that blockMesh adapts the meshes somehow at the interface.
Now my question:
Is there any possibility to check how the mesh is really looking like?
I created a slice through the domain in paraview and used the "wireframe" or "surface and edges" display mode, but the mesh looks really crazy. A collegue of mine told me that paraview would not display the real mesh properly.

Thanks in advance :)

Greetings Sandu69,

Yep, your colleague is right. I read your thread before going on my search about snappyHexMesh, and found what starts in this post, has the solution for you a few posts later.

So your colleague is right about Paraview triangulating everything that gets cut, but probably didn't know about the ExtractCellsByRegion solution ;)

Best regards,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,
thanks for your answer. "Extract by region" works fine. My collegue told me in the meantime that there is the "checkMesh" command. I think by using both of them it should be possible to be sure that the mesh is ok.

Best regards,
Sandu
