delic is on a distinguished road
I don't seem to see it in the documentation. If I create a patch pair in blockMesh do each of the faces require identical meshes or can they have different meshes?

In one word: No. MergePatchPairs will use the sliding interface coding that I've written a while back and it will merge non-matching patches without problems.
