Hi all,

@Bernhard, I hope you are doing well in Leoben.

@Simon, there also exists a solver named icoUncoupledKinematicParcelFoam (https://cfd.direct/openfoam/user-gui.../#x13-960003.5)
SimonStar likes this.

Hello everyone,
thanks a lot for replying, Tobi.

In my case I have a SteadyState simulation (with SimpleFoam) and I only want to calculate the particles with the transient model.

Is it a valid method to first do the simulation with SimpleFoam and than use the icoUncoupledKinematicParcelFoam with the U-Field from SimpleFoam?

If yes, is there any further help available that you know?

Thank you
Simon

Hi, the solver mentioned above needs a pre-calculated U-Field. So your approach is fine and common practise. However, here, you do not have a back coupling to the velocity field.

Hello again.

Thank you for the answers that is really helping me understanding.

I wold like to get a little more specific because after trying this for a couple of time there was no success.

My plan is to use the hopper-tutorial from the icoUncoupledKinematicParcelFoam-Solver as a starting point.
The tutorial has 2 Folders with two (part-)Simulations (hopperInitalState and hopperEmptying). For me it seems like non of them is calculating a velocity field because both are using the same Solver and the Particles are just affected by gravity.
BUT in the Allrun stands the fields are copied with 'mapFields'. What is exactly done in the initial state??

1. Can it be that I have tu run the solvers three times? First for Example the SimpleFoam for the U-Field and than (like in the Tutorial) two times the icoUncoupledKinematicParcelFoam-Solver.

2. Do I have to change the U-File in only one or both of the Tutorial Cases? And how can this be done? If I am just replacing the file the error occures.

Thank you for any help
Simon.
