Ring / Donut GGI Rotor Mesh

Hello foamers,
Let's say we have a VAWT, and we are interested only in 2D. Instead of the cylindrical rotor mesh as seen in the mixerGgi tutorial, how would a ring / donut shaped rotor mesh compare in computational load and accuracy? There would then be one rotor mesh with two, unconnected GGI faces on it, and two stator meshes, one like the mixerGgi stator and the other enclosed within the rotor mesh. What do you guys think?

(If you could get away with only needing one physical grouping for both sliding faces, which is really what I mean to ask as well.)
