Stresseq vs stress magnitude

2 Attachment(s)
Hi,

As can be seen from the 2 pics, 1 is stresseq the other 1 is stress magnitude.

As I have manage to identify stresseq is = von mises theory.

The peak stress value for stresseq and stress magnitude seems to be quite close, roughly different by 20-30%. I guess it should be some of the failure theory.
But I have no idea what is stress magnitude about? I need to know what theory is stress magnitude represent?

Any idea identifying the theory represents stress magnitude as shown?

watashiwa,

If you google "magnitude of a tensor" you will be able to find out how it is calculated.
As far as I know there is no physical interpretation behind the magnitude of the sigma tensor, paraview just gives you the option of finding the magnitude of vector/tensor fields.
