Would you pay to run your OpenFoam simulations remotely?

Hi all,

Wanted to gauge some opinions from the end users of OpenFoam regarding some questions I've been pondering about...

1. Would you use a service where you could run your OpenFoam analyses on a remote but scalable hardware infrastructure i.e. by utilising a "cloud service"?

2. If not, why not? Do you have all the hardware you need and are you utilising 100% of it? If so, what hardware would you most be interested in leasing i.e. GPUs, CPUs, infiniband etc.

3. What would you be willing to pay? e.g. AWS S3/EC2 prices + 20% for similar hardware architecture?

4. Is data security an issue for you? e.g. would you need to ensure your data stayed in the UK?

5. What other Value aspects would you look to from providers of these kinds of service?

Hi,

I thought that there are several companies that offer their hardware for OF-calculations.
One with a very good reputation is gompute/gridcore,

they offer OF trainings as well, as they are connected to Wikki => Hrv Jasak

But i think Icon will offer this as well.

Great thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware of this company. It's very interesting and exactly along the lines of what I was thinking.

Have you (or anyone else) ever used Gompute/others?

Hmmm.. it looks like I never got the number of responses I hoped I would get!

Maybe I would have been better phrasing the question "do you have enough hardware to run the analyses you want to?"

I think usually one uses OpenFOAM to do some science which is part of ones B.Sc./M.Sc./Ph.D. Thesis. So in most cases the college or school has some kind of super computer to perform the computations. Otherwise they will buy you a high performance desktop machine on which you can do your computations. That's my experience so far.
