Hi Everyone,

I am a new guy to OpenFoam, now I am stuck with one problem that I need your help. I use Ansys CFX and OpenFoam to solve the "backward facing step" problem, which is a laminar, steady problem. However, in OpenFoam. all the steady solvers seem to get wrong results, for example, by using potentialFoam, the velocity at the singularity point is the biggest, which is obviously not the case, so is in simpleFoam. However, by using the transient solver such as icoFoam, the results is OK, but if the meshsize is very small, the timestep must be very small which means that it costs such huge amount of time to get the steady results.

So my questions is that is there a steady solver that just takes a few iterations and then solve the problem? If so, could you please tell me which solver? If not, what should I do then?

Try simpleFoam (steady-state solver), and turn off the turbulence. It will take longer than "a few" iterations, but a lot less than the transient solver.
