GGI initial value definition: any effect?
Just a quick question...
I realized I accidentally defined values for patches of type ggi (i.e., uniform(6.8 0 0),etc.); this should be ignored by the solver, right? |
Dear
Will you please tell me How GGI is done in the Open FOAM? I am using Open FOAM 1.7.1 whether it is possible in this version. If not then which version should i use and from where should i get the extension files. If you have then please post it or tell me the procedure for that too.I am really in need of that. Thanks In Advance. |
Sure. I am pretty sure OF 1.7 does not have GGI capability. What you want is OF 1.5-dev or 1.6-ext. The installation was very easy for me following these instructions: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...ucid_10.04_LTS in section 2.3.2. I got a new computer and was able to install in no time. I have Ubuntu 10.04, I believe they dont work on Ubuntu 10.10, which is the latest version. I am not too sure of the differences between 1.5dev and 1.6ext, I have 1.5dev, but they both can do GGI. Hope this helps. Oh, and for setting up the case you can start from the 'mixerGgi' tutorial files.

Dear Lordvon
Thank you very much for giving me valuable information. This things i am searching from last couple of days i will try to install it.Hope it will work. |
Dear Lordvon
Will you please tell me that to install and run OpenFOAM 1.5-dev first we need to install OpenFOAM 1.5 and then OpenFOAM 1.5-dev.If this is correct then i am unable to get source pack of OpenFOAM 1.5. Will you please tell me how to install first OpenFOAM 1.5 and then to OpenFOAM 1.5-dev. Thanks in advance |
Hello Kurne, there is no need to install 1.5 first.
Are you using Ubuntu 10.04? The very easy procedure I described above works without flaw for me, and I have done it several times on different computers. Otherwise, I am sad to say I cannot help. I am not much of a computer expert or anything, and began using openfoam not too long ago. |
Dear Lordvon
I have installed OpenFOAM 1.6 on my ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and after that I followed the instruction given by the link http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/Installation and installed OpenFOAM 1.5-dev too. But the problem is to run the case files. Will you please tell me how to run the case and from where i get the tutorials of GGI because my case is of turbomachinery. Thanks in advance. |

Heres the necessary files to run a case, from my files; youll have to change the BCs etc. (plenty of resources for that on the forums). Youll need to make your own mesh ggi-ready by following these steps (Post #3): http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...mixer-ggi.html.

Dear Lordvon
Thanks for reply and posting the case file.Want to ask you one thing that you are running openFOAM 1.5-dev prior to installing it which version of openFOAM you have installed or directly you have install OpenFOAM 1.5-dev and run the case. I mean that openFOAM 1.5-dev is directly start working without any openFOAM version installation. |
You do not need to do anything prior to the installation procedure for 1.5-dev I mentioned; with a fresh ubuntu installation, if you follow the aforementioned installation procedure, you will be ready to run the case immediately (once you have created your own mesh, etc. I deleted the mesh that was with that case file I posted up, so it has no mesh and wont run on its own, but if you follow the mesh generation procedure I linked to in my previous post you can generate one of your own).
Oh, and also I forgot to mention I am only familiar with 2D meshes, but I am sure going to 3D will not be too difficult. |
Just for the info: we also have 1.6-ext with further development of the GGI and other turbomachinery-related tools + the new version is in preparation. Please check
