Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and CFD in general.

I am a senior in Aerospace Eng. now, and I was looking into taking the OpenFoam training courses offered on their website (foundation and advanced back to back in the same weekend) next summer.

http://openfoam.com/training/

Has anyone any experience with these courses? Are they worth the money?

I would be fresh out of Aerodynamics 1 when I take the course, and I'm familiar with C++ but not completely fluent with it yet (only one class with it so far).

Any advice? any other CFD training I can find? Ill most likely be doing graduate work with Ansys Fluent and Maverick meshing software, but I'd like to get some training while I'm still at the undergraduate level so that I am more enticing to possible research professors to take me on for grad school.

Thanks to everyone!

From what I hear from those who had training from OpenCFD, courses are good. I did not experience directly however.

My two cents. If you want to do CFD research (meaning development of numerical schemes or models), don't do it on a commercial code. Look for a group where they have their own code, or use an open source code, depending on your needs/complexity of the work. You will learn much more, even if it will be harder, at least at the beginning (and yes, you will likely publish less, but not everybody weights the quality in terms of kilograms of paper you print ).
If you do design, optimization and similar kind of research, commercial codes are perfectly fine, since you do not need to put your hands into the code itself, or develop anything new at the level of numerics/models.

Also, I would take a CFD or fluid mechanics class rather than a training on a specific code, especially if you are already sure you won't use that code.

Best,

(Hrv Jassak and Hendrik Rusche) from wikki https://www.gompute.com/web/guest/trainings http://www.wikki.co.uk/
ICON CFD http://www.opensourcecfd.com/training/

But there is free material of good quality as well http://www.openfoamworkshop.org/6th_...m/training.htm
