FEM implementation in OpenFOAM 2.0.0 or later?
Hi there,

I was wondering if there is a way to use a finite element algorithm within the OpenFOAM 2.0.x. I did quite a bit of research on the web, and only found some libraries for older versions e.g. 1.5
Is there any library supporting FEM for the present version? Does anyone have experience with OpenFOAM and FEM? Any useful links?
I mean there is a lot of stuff like 'it is also possible to apply finite element discretization'. But i wasnt able to find any examples, tutorials, pieces of code or any advice...

I have used OpenFOAM a bit now, and feel quite comfortable with the way it works. For my thesis i am asked to use a FEM algorithm though, it would be a shame if I couldnt do it within the Foam framework.

Thank you for your help,

Hi seboxx,

I don't know whether it's there in 2.0 but there is quite some FEM in the OpenFOAM-1.6ext version. It is especially used for mesh motion but there are also some basic FEM solvers.

I think if you go through the presentations of the OF-workshop of the past years you will find some FEM-stuff => mostly Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) but in the past these were (mostly) done in OF alone.
