Hi all,

I saw Kratos Multiphysics video here (quite an old one)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj6rp6lQkjY

I want to ask can OpenFOAM do all that Kratos can do in term of simulation of Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics?

If anyone has experience with both software please share your thoughts on both. Thanks

I have compiled Kratos but still confused to run the simulation as it is not using Paraview, and I have to save space, GiD is not open source.

Hey,
I just saw this question, you probably already figured it out.
I'm no expert in the complete set of features of both, I've worked a bit with OpenFOAM and some more with Kratos but so far I know OpenFOAM only works with fluid simulations but no solid mechanics.
Kratos Multiphysics does have a Fluid Dynamics Application on one side and a Structural Mechanics Application.
The question would be what kind of technologies and solvers do both have in terms of Fluid Mechanics.
My assumption is that OpenFOAM could have a much larger set of adjustable parameters due to it's long existence and more.
Also, not completely sure but I think OpenFOAM works with finite volumes exclusively while Kratos with finite elements as far as I know.

To the GiD/Paraview matter. Yes GiD is not open source but you can download it for free and use it. Academic license for example, and even ask for a trial for a couple months.
But more importantly, you can produce vtk output with Kratos which you can open in Paraview, just add the "vtk_output" in the "output_processes" block in the ProjectParameters.json

Best!
