Dear All,

I am very new to OpenFOAM. I am trying to simulate temperature and methane distribution in underground coal mine (turbulent flow with heat and species transport no reaction). I have gone through the user manual to see which tutorial is appropriate for it. However, I could not find the appropiate one. reactingFoam, dieselFoam and XiFoam seem suitable but it has reaction while mine is not. Is there any suggestion for newbie like me?

You could probably capture the methane and temperature transport using scalar transport - combine scalarTransportFoam with a turbulent solver like pimpleFoam. For temperature transport, the "diffusion coefficient" would be your coefficient of conduction through the air. I think there's something you have to do to include the turbulence effects on the scalar transport equation. Not sure about that.

With any of the solvers you mentioned (dieselFoam, XiFoam and reactingFoam), you can turn off reactions by switching the option for chemistry off in the constant/chemistryProperties file.

Dear Marupio, thank you for your kind response. I am very new to this software so i do not know how to combine two solver. Can I use pimple foam instead?

Hi jundika,

No you can't just use pimpleFoam because it doesn't include scalar transport. Try Macro's suggestion... I don't know much about those reacting solvers.
