Hi all,

I want to verify my code about condensation.
I know some test case about condensation.
but all of them are 2D or 3D problem
At first I want to try 1D problem.

Do you know 1D problem about condensation??
Could you tell me the paper with 1D condensation problem?

thanks.

Dear Kawamura,

you might want to consider the classical Stefan-Problem, named by Josef Stefan, an Austrian scientist. It is THE test case for phase change problems. I use it to validate my evaporation implementation in interPhaseChangeFoam.

You can just use Google to find some details, but I recommend the following papers:

Barba and Spiga: "Discharge mode for encapsulated PCM tanks", Solar Energy 74 (2), 2003, 141-148

Lin and Jiang: "An improved quasi-steady analysis for solving freezing problems in a plate, a cylinder, and a sphere", J. Heat Transfer 125 (6), 2003, 1123-1129

I hope this will help!

Bye,

Lars

Dear Lars Kiewidt
I want simulate evaporation and condenstion in vertical Tube,i want use interFoam solver (or interPHase changeFoam) ,and i konw ishould modify solver by adding energy equation and mass source..can you help me...?

Dear Sasy,

unfortunately I'm not working on evaporation in OpenFOAM(R) right now. But I suggest that you search the forum for evaporation and boiling; you will find some threads about different implementations of the energy equation into interFoam.

Also, I would suggest that you read the PhD thesis of Kunkelmann which is freely available. He successfully uses OpenFOAM(R) to investigate boiling phenomena.

Further, I recommend the following paper:

Hardt and Wondra: Evaporation model for interfacial flows based on a continuum-field representation of the source terms. J Comp Phys 227 (2008), pp. 5871-5895.

Together with the threads in the forum this should provide a good start for your evaporation solver.

Best regards,

Lars

Dear Lars
Thank you For Reply
yes,I have phd Thesis kunkelmann, and i read the Hardt paper, but i just simualte the evaporation at the interface between fluid and gas, in which there is no bubble, and i think dont need so complicated solver same that (kunkelmann solver)...i try modifid by adding T.eqn and source term to solver...however do you have user guide how add source term and T.eqn...?

Dear Sasy,

you can find some information about implementing TEqn.H into icoFoam in the OpenFOAM Wiki.

Futher, there is a good thread on the forum abotu adding temperature equation to interFoam.

Here is another report from Håkan Nilsons CFD course at Chalmers University about interFoam and temperature equation.

These sources should provide you enough information to add some kind of energy equation to interFoam.

By the way: I got all these sites by just looking for "interFoam + temperature equation" on Google.

Best,

Lars
