trouble with fluentmeshtofoam

Hi ,friends.I use fluent to get a .cas file with ascii format.when i use the command of fluent3DMeshToFoam Lask.cas.I get the following error:--> FOAM FATAL ERROR:
Do not understand characters: /
on line 157058

From function fluentMeshToFoam::lexer
in file fluent3DMeshToFoam.L at line 747.

FOAM exiting
I do not understand why there are so many error about the characters. Please tell me how to get rid of it if you know. Thanks a lot.

Hi,

fluent3DMeshToFoam takes the fluent ".msh" mesh file as an input, not the fluent case file.

when i use .msh file ,i also get trouble:--> FOAM FATAL ERROR:
Do not understand characters:
on line 1066402

From function fluentMeshToFoam::lexer
in file fluent3DMeshToFoam.L at line 747.

FOAM exiting

can you tell me how to get rid of it.thanks a lot.

bigphil March 25, 2012 09:00

It should work with the mesh ".msh" file.
Essentially fluent3DMeshToFoam is complaining that it doesn't recognise the character on line 1066402 of the msh file, is it possible that the msh file is corrupt?

It seems like quite a large mesh, maybe try converting a simple small mesh and see if it works.

Or you can upload a msh you are having trouble with here and I can try it out.

I am so sorry i do not know how to upload my case on it.Can you tell me ?Thanks a lot.

hei@ge March 25, 2012 09:15

I saw some people use dos2unix,is my file's format wrong?

hei@ge March 25, 2012 09:17

if you are free.i can give you my case through e-mail.

bigphil March 25, 2012 09:45

You do not need to convert the file with dos2unix.

You can create a dropbox account (www.dropbox.com), then upload the msh file and post the public link to the file here.

Did you try making a small simple msh file?

Philip

No,becase i am in the ubuntu system.and i think the number of the mesh should not the matter ,but i will try it tommrow.i will also upload my mesh to the dropbox.

hjasak March 26, 2012 03:29

Are you converting an ASCII file? Binary won't work (I know, I wrote it).

Hrv

hei@ge March 26, 2012 07:23

Yes,i get .cas file through fluent, and i delete the binary.I make my number of mesh become smaller,it works. Can you find the reason? thanks a lot.

hei@ge March 26, 2012 07:24

I make a small simple mesh .it works. can you find the reason?thanks a lot.

bigphil March 26, 2012 07:52

hei@ge,

There may be a number of reasons why your large mesh is not being converted, possibly there are errors in your large mesh, or maybe your large mesh is not being written correctly, or maybe the mesh file is being corrupted if it is not copied properly.

I would check in fluent that your mesh does not have errors. Also you could try upload a dropbox link to your mesh here and I can have a look at it.

Thank you very much for your sincere help.I do not have a dropbox. and i am in the ubuntu, can you give me your e-mail adreass if you are free. Thanks again.

hei@ge March 26, 2012 08:04

i try to get a account of dropbox ,but i fail.

hei@ge,

I am not familiar with fluent grid check.

If you go to www.dropbox.com, you can create an account for free using your email address. then upload your mesh and post a public link to it here.

Hi,bigphil,Thanks very much for your help.I get another .cas file which also has a large number of mesh. To my surprised ,it works.but i do not know the reason. do you have a look at my case? I hope you can get the reason.thanks again.
My English is so so.

This mesh converts correctly for me using fluent3DMeshToFoam in OpenFOAM-1.6-ext.

I am not sure why some of your meshes convert correctly and some do not. Just make sure the mesh files are copied properly when moving them.
