ParaFoam OpenGL Warning

Issue Resolved:

Ubuntu install on windows 7 using virtualbox does not fully support my 3D accelerated graphics driver. Switched to dual boot with no issues. OpenGL not fully compatible with virtualbox. However, paraFoam/ParaView still functional

I'm just getting started with OpenFOAM tutorials, and am already having issues (total noob). I followed the directions for the OpenFOAM Ubuntu Deb Pack Installation. The overview explains that this installation is the easiest and works on a virtual machine. I am running virtual box on Windows 7 and have gotten all the way through the installation. However, when I run the first tutorial case (Cavity) ParaFoam gives me the following error:

ERROR: In /home/opencfd/OpenFOAM/ParaView-4.1.0/VTK/Rendering/OpenGL/vtkOpenGLDisplayListPainter.cxx, line 188
vtkOpenGLDisplayListPainter (0x1b12fc0): failed after RenderInternal 1 OpenGL errors detected
0 : (1280) Invalid enum

OpenGL Warning: No pincher, please call crStateSetCurrentPointers() in your SPU
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

In my thinking, I can't be the only person to run into this error but as I have looked through the forums I can't find any solutions. I know this isn't a CFD question, but until I can get this to work all my CFD questions are on hold.

Thanks in advance for any info.

i have exactly the same problem...

This error has to do with the incompatibility of virtual box with OpenGL. Don't know the specifics, but running a dual boot using the Ubuntu Windows installer is a better way to go if you have the disc space. Using the windows installer, Ubuntu can be simply uninstalled like any ther windows program.

Hello All,

If anyone has a solution to the above problem using Virtual Box please let me know. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as a virtual machine inside Virtual Box 4.3.10 on a Windows 7 machine.

 i put alot of work into that, but in the end there was no solution to find.

now i m using the sample tool which is provided and copy that sampled results to excel or whatever you use.

a other possibilty is to use the plot on line tool and then selecting spreedsheet and exporting the values to for ex. excel for further work

Hello All,

Dual boot might be the best option but if anyone wants to use Ubuntu inside Virtual Box, you can just turn off the 3D acceleration. ParaView works much smoothly in that case for me.
