Hello all,

I am trying to create a vector plot (glyphs) of my 2D airfoil case in ParaView, however the vectors are too dense. I would like to use the "Extract Subset" filter to show only a fraction of the vectors, however the option is greyed out. I learned from the ParaView wiki (links below) that this filter requires a structured mesh (I am using a structured c-grid for my case, it was generated with blockMesh). The pipeline in paraView shows "Display (UnstructuredGridRepresentation) though and thus I cannot access the Extract Subset filter.

Does anyone know how I can either make paraView recognise my structured mesh as such, or do some kind of workaround to reduce the sampling rate so the vectors look good?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

After additional research, maybe OpenFOAM treats all meshes as unstructured:

The OpenFOAM website mesh generation page states that "OpenFOAM supports unstructured meshes of cells of any shape". There is no mention of structured meshes on the page, even under the BlockMesh section. This is not definitive, but maybe a sign that would explain what I am seeing in paraView.

Is it possible to convert the BlockMesh to a structured grid in another software, then map the results to it and post-process in paraview? This sounds labour-intensive, but without another option I might not have a choice.
