Hello all,

Can any of you please tell me how to plot mass flow rate through a surface over time? I use MESHFREE for my simulation. Its based on the finite pointset method.
since im new to Paraview a step by step solution would be very appreciated.

Thank you all

Hello all,

I would like to do the same analysis.

So far I tired on a slice:
Filter "Calculator" -> Velocity of phase in normal direction to slice * phase fraction
When chosen point data the filter "Integrate Variables" is possible. It seems that it integrates over time and surface, which leads to a total volume over total time. Unfortunately I could not find a good documentation on this.
In addition to trying the IntegrateVariables-Filter I plotted the data from the calculator over time (for every second) and took it times the surface area of the slice. When But that is not very accurate.

My case is a multiphase simulation in OpenFoam and I use a slice (Filter) as surface to monitor the mass flow.

Do you have another approach or do you know a documentary to the filters in paraview?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

The following method works for me.
Using a slice or clip filter, extract the surface where you wish to calculate mass flow on. Apple the following filters:
-->Generate surface normals
-->Calculator filter ( Density*(Velocity.Normals) )
-->Integrate variables
-->Plot data over time
Hope this helps.

did this work for you in the end? I am also doing multiphase simulation, but why are you multiplying with phase fraction, density_phase* Velocity_phase on a surface should do it right? I am also trying to calculate mass flow rate over a surface but I do not get any results.... I would appreciate if you share your experience, thanks!
