Plotting small particle fraction profiles along depth in 3D packing

Dear Community

This is more related to DEM (particle visualisation and post processing). I have performed a CFDEM simulation (OpenFOAM+LIGGGHTS) to investigate small particle infiltration in packed bed of large particles. After the simulation, I want to calculate small particle fraction (vol of small/vol of small and large particles) at several planes along the depth, so that I can get small particle fraction profile along the depth of bed.

The created a packing containing two particle sizes (large:type1, small:type2).So that i can easily calculate the area (or volume) of small (type2) and large (type1) particles at several surface planes along the depth. I want to cut the packing at several locations (similar to attached figure), extract the particle information from that plane and calculate the small particle fraction on that plane and repeat the procedure for several planes.

I tried to use clip function in paraview, but it gives the clipped portion of the packing (from bottom to the specified z-location, i.e. 3d packing between two planes), not a surface at desired location. For exapme I want to visualize the plane cutting the packing at z=0.5 m from top and calculate the fraction of small particle fraction on that cutting plane. I also tried with slice function in paraview but it doesn't work and produces no data (may beslice function is defined for continous quanties like cfd fields, therefore cannot slice properly resulting unable to produce the plane conatining particles on cutting plane). is there an easy way to do this?

Can i directly do this calculation in paraview? Is there some function in paraview that could directly evaluate small particle fraction along the depth?
