Native VisIt Reader Bugs
I just wanted to created a post where we could keep a buglist/request for functionality list for the native openfoam reader in VisIt.
I have been away from developing the reader for sometime and would like to get it upto date. Thanks, Terry |

Hi, Terry,
I installed VisIT 1.6 (both windows version and linux version). I selected OpenFOAM for file type, but, how do I read the transient data (several time steps) into VisIT? Do I need the reader? Thanks! Pei |

I just opened up the bubbleColumn sample data, and everything seemed fine. Navigate to the system folder of the dataset and choose the controlDict file. That should automatically open all time steps, they will be displayed as cycles.
The choose plot and plot something. You can then step through the data using the fast forward button. or play it foward or backward using the play key. |

Hi, Terry,
I tried to open the controlDict file, but, visit hang when reading the data - I do have quite a few time steps, but, paraview can do this reading pretty quick. I will try visit again with a case with fewer time data set. Maybe I did something wrong still. pei |

With the latest VisIt 2.7.0, the native reader for OpenFOAM has been updated to a modified version of the ParaView/VTK OpenFOAM reader (release notes). The new reader is functionally identical to the ParaView/VTK reader, with additions to support the VisIt internal API and deletion of parallelization (but serial reading of decomposed cases are supported).
A VisIt developer worked hard for it. I'd appreciate if anyone posts comments about the new reader to the visit-users list (to let the developers know the importance of the update). p.s. To load an OpenFOAM case, open controlDict. No need to run a "touch case.foam". T |
