Hello,

Has anybody calculated mass flow with Paraview ?
I don't know if it's possible but if somebody has an idea :-)

Thank you

Hi Aurore,
You can calculate the mass flow using the filter called Surface Flow.

Hi Theophane,

Thank you for your response. I don't want to have mass flow for each cell : how can I have mass flow through boundary patches ?

Thank you

Hi Aurore,

In order to calculate mass flow through boundary patches you have to use "extract part" from the filter menu, then select the boundary patch you want. And then, use "Surface flow" on your extracted part.

Hallo Aurore!
Based on the issue discussed above. I'm wondering how the mass flow is computed. Since I have the equation to obtain mass flow rate:
mdot = (A * pt/sqrt[Tt]) * sqrt(gam/R) * M * [1 + .5 * (gam-1) * M^2 ]^-[(gam + 1)/(gam - 1)/2]
Where mdot is mass flow rate we want to achieve, Tt is the total temperature, pt is the total pressure, M is Mach number, gam is the specific heat ratio.
So I guess you have to define total temp and pressure somewhere in your preprocessing, am I right? So I want to know which solver did you use in FoamX? And how you defined pt, Tt boundary conditions? Thanks by the way!

do you mean extract block or surface? I tried both and it only shows in the options internalmesh to choose, there are no regions or patches i can use from, thanks!

So i tried your video, i used extract block, however in my case i couldnt extract the block first and then calculator, I had to do calculator first... then extract block inlet and outlet patches and then integrate variables.

So thanks I have that!
