Hi,

I want to plot time velocity averages over a line using paraview but I can't figure out how. I can plot at one specific time but how can I get the time average of that?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi,

I found a way to do this. One should use the filter "temporal statistics" under "Temporal". This will calculate the average of all the time steps. If you want a specific range of times just open the VTK files of the corresponding time steps and use the filter. The variable with the computed average will appear in the dropbox where u can select the variable you want to visualize. If you then want to plot over a line, use that filter and that should do it.

Good luck,

Tony

Hello Tony,

Many thanks for this post, it helped a lot. But I don't understand how to average from a certain period of time steps. Particularly in your answer "If you want a specific range of times just open the VTK files of the corresponding time steps and use the filter", I don't understand the opening the VTK files corresponding to time steps. When I open the paraFoam it automatically loads all the time steps (from 0-1), and I want the average from 0.7-1

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Hi. I know that this tread is quite old but I am facing the same problem. Did you find the solution? I also need to do an average on a limited number of timeSteps. Thanks in advance for your help.

You just need to put those folders of timesteps you do not need aside (e.g. in another subfolder that paraview doesn't read) and reopen your .foam file again

In Paraview:
  • Load the case.
  • Apply the Extract Time Steps filter and select the time step indices.
  • Click Apply.
