STL not detected

Hi guys,
I'm currently working on a dissertation that requires me to use CHAM phoenics for some aerodynamic analysis.
I have used Autodesk Alias to create a model of a vehicle which I then converted to STL file using Autodesk Inventor.
I have no trouble importing the file into the domain as a blockage. However, after running the solver, the post processor shows the air as flowing straight through the vehicle instead of around it.
Any attempts that I have made thus far to fix the problem in phoenics have failed and in some cases created large holes in the model.

If anyone has had similar problems or may be able to suggest a fix I would be grateful for your advice

Cheers

Hi Josh,

It is difficult to give specific advice without seeing your geometry.

First, make sure that the blockage object is set to a solid material, rather than the domain fluid. I would also check and un-check “see back of objects” whilst viewing the model to see if any facets are facing the wrong way. You could use datmaker to perform a hole fix and continuity check of the model to make sure it is imported correctly.

When running the simulation, I would perform a manual dump after a couple of sweeps and take a look at the results in the VR-Viewer. You should be able to plot a contour of the PRPS field which will display fluid as blue and solid as red. Un-checking averaging and sweeping through the domain will allow you to see if the geometry is picked up correctly.

Thanks,
Harry
