Cylinder Case March 12, 2005 10:26

Vortex shedding from a cylinder

I am trying to investigate the shedding vortices from a cylinder.

As a start I have looked at the case presented by CHAM. unfortunatley some of the details are missing. With my simulation I do not get the alterante (top, bottom)vortices shedding.

Has anyone got any details of an appropriate test case? or the complete details given by CHAM.

For reference the study I am trying to reproduce is located at

http://www.cham.co.uk/website/new/mica/urb.htm#results

I have a q1 you could try with version 3.6 post your email address and I can send it to you

Me too! I've gotten it to work from Library case 808, I think it is, with laminar turbulence model - but as soon as I invoke the Smagorinsky turbulence model (Large Eddy Simulation) the vortex shedding disappears.

Dear Mick

can u send to me this q1 file to generate vortex shedding(is it can be used also for turbulent flow)

thanks in advance Khairy

I have found a nice case from the applications library, courtesy of Michael Malin, Files sent to above address on 21-02-06.

Vortex.zip -> unzip and load LES.htm

contains 6 files :

les.htm les_cl.gif les_vec.gif les_steady.q1 les_unsteady.q1 ground.for -> extra for an LES model attempt
