I want to know how to translate phi files to tecplot files on windows xp. The translator is supposed to be in the phoenics files, but the file is not there. How can i get the RUNTEC file?

Re: Tecplot
Ask cham support representative in mexico, or UK. They send you de file right away, you can try phoenics reader is free and quite good for post processing.

Re: Tecplot
Its very simple, i thought that i had to translate the phi file, but there is another way, the output file can be written by phoenics on tecplot type file directly. In the output menu, change the fild dumping settings, there you can change the type of the file, change PHI for TECPLOT.

Re: Tecplot

Could u give a brief description how to do this? When I run translator from the toolbar it crashes after entering the file name. My file is pretty big. Could it be too big? How do I translate the file?

Many thanks

Re: Tecplot
The TECEXE file is in the directory PHOENICS\D_INTFAC\D_TECPLO\D_WINDF. You should copy it to your D_PRIV1 for an easier use.

I noticed this utility doesn't work if you didn't choose a title for you case; maybe that's your problem? 'No title has been set for this run.' always makes it crash!!!

Hope it will be useful

Re: Tecplot
Thanks for your answer bola, it really helped

I got to translate the files using the tecexe file, yes, it crashes if you dont set a name for the run, but, it also crashes if the name of your phi file is not PHI, in order to make it work, you also have to change the name of the file, from whatever.phi to phi.phi

why is that? i have no idea but, thats the way it worked Daniel

Re: Tecplot
HI everybody

at last i figured out how to use the translator, the problem was the size of thi phi file, so, if you are running the translator with some version of windows i suggest you to run it from a DOS window, this way, if the tecexe blows, there are some messages at the end, so you can edit the size of the array of the translator, first you edit the fortran file named tecmain.for, then you run a .bat file named BLDTEC, after that a new modified tecexe comes out. A patgeo file must be in the folder that you are running tecexe, if not, at least copy the default one.

Re: Tecplot
Dear Tom Could you solve your problem in tecplot translation? I've made the grid in ICEM-CFD. I have a problem like yours. When I enter the file type (phi) the translator window closes. How can I solve this problem?
