Default Validation of carpark impulse/jet fans

Hi all,

I am thinking of getting of PHOENICS after hearing many good things. One application of particular interest is if PHOENICS can adequately model the velocity profile of ductless impulse/jet fans in an underground carpark? There is an authority requirement here to model the fan against an actual site installation to see how close the modelled and actual site velocity profile match. I had tried modelling it using FDS but the results deviate a fair bit. For eg. at 15m, the actual velocity is 1.5m/s but FDS gives 4m/s. I think has to be do with the fact that FDS is heavily dependent on cell resolution and you can only model the jet fan to a certain resolution otherwise the entire carpark, which can be 5,000 sqm or more, becomes computationally expensive.

Thanks ya all in advance

Hi, I wonder what are your conclusions now after this years. I am user of Phoenics since 2007 and I find myself quite experienced, now... but every new day supprise my a little bit :-) Are your open to exchange your knowledgement? Let me know, please. I believe in Phoenics and it gives me result accurate in 80-90%, that I expect before I start modelling yet.
