Seems like pointwise will automatically populate my grid with quilts and models when for each iges surface that I import. What's that about? Gridgen didn't do that. So then as I'm trying to manage them, I have three times as many entities.

It will only added a model/quilt pair for each trimmed surface in an IGES file. Pure B-spline surfaces will remain as is. You can add a model/quilt pair for B-spline surfaces if you want to add them to a model. Also note, if an IGES file has a model (aka solid) in it, Pointwise will recognize it.

This is to support the overhauled and much upgraded modeling/quilting in Pointwise. Gridgen's modeling/quilting took a much different, and IMHO a more inferior, approach.

I suggest you read the modeling tutorial (Chap. 4) in Pointwise's Tutorial Workbook to get up to speed with it.
