Hi,
I am using an unstructured grid for flow through a rectangular duct. I want to refine the mesh only near one wall, which is heated. When I extrude the domain that forms this particular wall, pointwise creates an additional block and requires me to specify boundary conditions on the surfaces of the newly generated block. I would like to maintain the original block and simply increase the cell density close to one wall. Is it possible to do this? Thanks. |

Hi,
I have a slightly revised question at this point. I have attached a pic of my grid. I am using a coarse structured grid at this point. I have managed to refine the region near the bottom wall that is away from the sphere. When I try to refine the region under the sphere in a similar manner, the inclined connectors from the sphere to the corner of the empty cube do not form a domain. I am assuming this is due to the distribution of points. Is there a way to get around this? Thanks. |

The structured mesh is somewhat self explanatory - O-topo around the sphere and H-topo for the remainder. Straightforward with a bit of tedium assembling the blocking around the sphere. (first two images) The hybrid mesh uses the structured blocks up and down stream of the sphere with blocks for the floor BL. Below the sphere there's an prism block created with a path based extrusion from a diagonalized domain on the floor (using a path extrusion will ensure the side domains match the adjacent structured blocks). Around the sphere I used the same O-topo from the structured version. In the remaining void I created an unstructured bloc. (second two images) If you want them to get some ideas, send me a PM with your email address and I will send them by email - to big for forums but small enough for email. -Chris |
