Pointwise Nastran

I'm trying to import grid(CGNS) from Nastran to pointwise but it gives error Warning: Cannot convert 1 entity

Any help could be appreciated

Does this grid contain blocks with mixed cell types?

Pointwise currently only supports homogeneous blocks. For instance, Pointwise cannot import blocks that contain both tets and hexes.

If you provide a file that repeats the problem, I can give you a better answer.

FYI, the next release of Pointwise will handle mixed cell blocks!

Thanks for reply
I'm not sure type of elemets as I have downloaded it from- http://heinrich.lufmech.rwth-aachen....ured_wing.bdf-

I presume its hexagonal type elements

I opened it mesh file in ICEM mesh tool and exported mesh in CGNS from there

There was an error in the link you posted above. I downloaded the file from here.

I found two issues.

First Issue

The file lists the cell connectivity first (CTETRA) follwed by the grid vertices (GRID). The Pointwise NASTRAN reader expects the GRID items to be listed in the file first!

I was able to hand edit this ASCII file and move the GRID lines to the top of the file and the grid loaded into Pointwise!

Second Issue

The file seems to be corrupted. I am not sure if it got corrupted during download or if the file on the website is bad.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help David.

I need a favor if you still have the edited file please send me

try this dropbox link.

In addition to moving the GRID points, I also removed all the non-grid data to reduce the file size. Pointwise ignores this data so it is not needed for import.

The file is corrupt and will have errors in it.

If you set the split angle to 35, more of the grid will load.

I will log a bug to fix the NASTRAN reader.

I am not still able to get proper grid. some spikes are coming out (can be seen in image attached). I used different angles but couldn't get correct grid

any suggestions?

As I said in posts #4 and #6 above, the original file seems to be BAD.

There is nothing Pointwise can do to fix a corrupt file.

You can import the wing IGES file into Pointwise and build your own surface mesh.
