This problem annoys me for a long time. Every time after I use a bypass way to get the results I forgot to get deep into this. The problem is, It is OK to select set A and B for trim by surface. But for trim by curve function, after draw a curve on the quilt database, I selected the quilt and click trim by curves, the "surface selected" has no surface select, so I cannot continue further. This youtube video shows how to do and the quilt can be selected. I also attached an image showing the quilt can not be selected for "trim by curves".

It looks like you sketched a connector on your surface, rather than a database curve. A connector is a grid entity; whereas, a database curve is a geometry entity.

You first need to sketch your curve using a database curve. From the Create menu select Line, Curve, etc. from the Draw Curves submenu. This opens the corresponding panel. The default entity type is set to Connector. You need to explicitly change this to Database from the Entity Type frame. Once you have drawn your curve, then it's usually a good idea to project that curve to your desired surface, or draw a Database Constrained curve from the outset.

Once you have done that, you can select the surface you want to trim and open the Trim By Curves Panel via the Edit menu. The curve you just sketched should appear highlighted in green (this is different from a green connector as shown in your image) indicating it is on the surface. Select this curve using the Display window, and click Imprint to split the surface along the curve. Click OK to save your changes and exit the Trim By Curves Panel.

Best Regards,

Zach

Zach,

Yes, you are totally right. I found this "solution" only last week and is exactly like what you describe. With the powerful function of trim, we can save a lot of efforts. Hope this post also can help others who might not aware of this.

Thank you.
