Hello!

I am struggling to fill an unstructured block with cells using trex. I have attached pictures of the whole block I am trying to mesh, as well as the close up of what I know is my problem area. I have messed with this weird domain several times to try to fix the large skewness/small angle triangles that I am getting in the corners.

The reason the whole square part is diagonalized and not unstructured is because I am meshing a wind tunnel, and I am hoping to get the actual tunnel portion of the wind tunnel to be structured. I am hoping to make the stilling chamber (the quarter symmetry of which is shown) unstructured, but connecting it to the structured wind tunnel. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I may clean up this domain a bit?

Thank you for your help and your time!

Hello Matthew:

The closeup picture gives me a pretty good idea of the problem. The surface mesh there seems to have a very large jump in edge length from the quad to tri region. T-Rex is sensitive to the quality of the initial surface mesh from which it extrudes the volume mesh.

My suggestion is to update the tri mesh so that the cells near the quad mesh are roughly the same size. They can grow large as you move away from that boundary.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your help! I have tried fixing those cells, I have posted a picture of the new close up, and it looks a lot cleaner, but it still won't initialize. Do you have any other suggestions? I can't thank you enough for your time and help!

Matthew, I think at this point it would be best if you contacted our technical support engineers at support@pointwise.com. Have your Customer ID handy.
