Fellow CFD-enthusiasts,

I have been looking for a way to modify the boundary conditions and increase the number of blocks in the CGNS grid files located here -
https://turbmodels.larc.nasa.gov/naca4412sep_grids.html

I am interested in these files -
I have a research CFD code and want to modify the boundary conditions given (as they are not implemented) and also increase the number of blocks by equally splitting at selected grid points to export a multiblock CGNS grid with lots of equally balanced/weighted blocks for efficient parallelisation.

Does software with a top down approach achieve this (Pointwise)?

Are there utilities to directly modify CGNS grids? So far I've only seen interpolation and format translation tools in the official site.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,

Hello Ovi,

Pointwise is a bottom-up meshing tool that can directly import a CGNS grid file. I've imported one of the examples you've provided above and can confirm that you can re-specify the boundary conditions and split the blocks for your parallelization scheme. I've attached an image showing the grid sitting in Pointwise.

Best regards,

Hi Travis,

Thank you for your response. Is there any way I can access this file?
I would like to decompose it into about 64 zones and add more grid points in the spanwise direction and change to BCs suitable for my research code.

Are you able to share this grid file or am I able to get a copy of Pointwise for academic work?

Looking forward to your response.

Kindly
Ovi

Hi Ovi,

You'd need Pointwise to open this file. If your institution doesn't currently have a license, you can work with Applied CCM in Australia http://www.pointwise.com/sales/#accm

Regards,
Travis
