Pointwise 3D mesh generation

Hi all,

I'm trying to create a 3D model of a aircraft fuselage. I'm using Pointwise v16.04 to create the mesh for Fluent. I have the unstructured fuselage surface with a structured boundary layer and a half-spherical surface with unstructured cells for far-field pressure. I thought I had filled in the space in between the outside of the BL and the spherical surface by selecting the corresponding domains, creating, then initializing the block. Once I try loading it in Fluent though, I run into a slew of skewness problems, mostly in that region. Is there any particular way to control cell skewness and left-handedness in Pointwise? Those seem to be the two errors that are giving me problems when I load it into Fluent.

I also have problems when I try to copy that half sphere to create a full sphere for angle of sideslip analysis. I notice the skewness values for the mirror regions do not match up. For example, the max skewness of the original block might be 0.89 while the mirrored block is at 0.98. All I had done was copy->paste->mirror .

I've been playing around with this for some time. I had previously only done simple 2D flows around airfoils so I think I may be a little over my head.

Thank you for any help,
Jack

The cell handedness can be solved by checking the unstructured blocks orientation, the vectors should be inward.

The skewness in pointwise is hard to control but a possible way is to control the included angle and deviation.

Hope it helps you.
