Dear Sir,

I have been trying to model the scouring near a vertical seawall using REEF3D but I am not getting the correct results. Erosion is taking place at a location a few meters away from the seawall. Could you please help me to find out the error in my code.

Input file is attached.

Hi Daineymol,

thanks for your feedback. We will have a look (this might take some time).

Hi,
Could you upload&attach the input files, so that I can download the .txt-files directly, please?
Plus, a screenshot or sketch of your setup/result against what you expected (e.g. where the scour is in the exp data) would be helpful
That would be great, we will have a look then.

control and ctrl file is attached

PS: I am not doing any experimental study and completely rely on REEF3D for my thesis work

Thanks
Dainey

I've been running your case:

- I do not get a result, the simulation basically crashes. As I can see, you set N 61 very high, so you do not get an "obvious" crash, but that is no solution. You only increase the time where your simulation runs but it still crashes.
- the reason is your wave input. For Cnoidal waves, it is not valid. (Check with Mehaute chart). This extreme input reaches the breaking limit. You should adapt your setup (wave input / depth) in the first place and get a good result for your waves, then focus on the sediment transport.
- With my previous request ("a screenshot or sketch of your setup/result against what you expected (e.g. where the scour is in the exp data) would be helpful"), I mainly meant that it would be helpful if you give me a sketch or a screenshot of what your result is against what you expect. Basically where or why you choose your input. Also if you don't have direct experiments, I am sure you have a plan. And it is easier to check input files if I know what the goal/intention is.

Dear Ronja,

Thanks a lot for your kind reply.

-I have been trying to study the scouring around different seawall configurations (example: vertical and curved).
-I am using the wave and sediment characteristics of a cyclone prone area in India. I have downloaded the wave data from ECMWF. The significant wave height ranges from 1-3 metres and the time period lies between 5-12 seconds. I have chosen various wave height-time period combinations for the analysis. Most of the waves are breaking and none of the wave theory is applicable. But the simulation does not crash if I input Hb (breaking wave height).

The input and output of a particular combination is attached here.

I have some doubts regarding B 98 and B 99. Could you please check that as well.

I did not incorporate bed slope since I don’t have any idea about it.

Thanks
Dainey
