You need to make sure the housing is a solid first. If it is currently a surface body, you can use the sew tool to stitch it together.

What you need to do is use the shroud as an enclosure...

Essentially you end up doing a boolean subtraction where you end up with a third part which is the space between the shroud and the Fan......

Perhaps if you included some more info, you could get some help.
