Unfortunately, I erased everything after it didn't work, so I am not sure about the versions. It was the latest version from openfoam.com (OF V1806) though....

Thanks Matej for your suggestion. The OS was Ubuntu 16 - 32bit and you are right I also think the error could be because of the platform. I also had it run under VM which could also cause...

2. bulding qt (./makeQt 5.9.3)
