Hi to all STAR-CD CFD comunity I am one of STAR-CD user in the automotive air conditioner application. If anyone is currently using this code in the same field I would apreciate if we can share the exprience in this specific field of application.Has anyone analyzed the blower fan for vehicle air conditioner; comments of how to set the boundary condition and what results CFD shows in comparison to test results for the same system; HVAC unit air distribution; heat pick up; simulation of evaprator cooliong performance- almost all subject related to vehicle air conditioner CFD analysis. I would appreciate response. regards,

We did 3-D CFD calculations on an automotive HVAC unit with ventilation ducts. Air temperatures at ventilation outlets of the HVAC unit were calculated by using measured heat transfer data from the evaporator and heater cores. These cores were treated as porous media with heat source/sink. Of course we did measure pressure drop across the cores for momentum equations.
We tried to see the variation of outlet temperature when internal air flow control flaps were linearly closing or opening, and got good results when compared with vehicle test data. You may find some results in our SAE Paper 971778 presented at VTMS-3. |

There was a workshop about this topic at the german office this year. You should try to get a copy of the material.
