Reading Files With The Prostar Editor In NT
 

I seem to have a lot of trouble with opening script files from within Prostar using NT. I create it and save it from Prostar then the next time I go back to it I get the message 'Error opening file' so I then have to read the file through wordpad or similar.

I didn't have this problem with UNIX. Anybody know a way around it?

I am using win NT star cd. I know that sometimes misterious error message shows up in NT version. I recommand you to do every steps carefully again. That's the only way in my opinion. Keep trying and you will get your own know-how about NT star cd.

I'm not positive I know the answer, but I'm wondering if the problem is caused by having or not having the extra carriage return <CR> that windows sometimes expects in its text files and unix never wants. Can you relate problems to whether or not this character appears at the end of each line?

Hi,

I tried leaving an extra carriage return and the same thing happens. I wonder if it is because my NT is set up to open MAC files as wordpad and not as a plain text file?

I changed my settings so that MAC files open with Notepad in text/plain format, this still does not work.

I remember that MAC files used to be associated with Movie Player maybe there is a confliction somewhere.

I think this is another bug of the lousy NT 3.1 version. Actually it appeared in 3.1A (it worked in 3.05). I always edit and change Macros in an external editor like wordpad. Is is important to have a carriage return or an empty line at the end of the file otherwise Prostar doesn't execute the last line. It also seems to be important to use the extension .MAC in capital letters. Prostar has a lot of problems with the NT file permission system. Sometimes you must explicitly close a file in Prostar to be able to read it.
