PSTT File

I am a beginner with STAR-CD. When running tutorial 13, I followed the instructions step by step, however, I can not get the tut.pstt. What I can get is only tut.pst. Could you pls tell me the reason?

Thank you very much!

Hi Yuan, Tutorial 13 !!!!!!!!. Tell me first how you run the tutorial and have you got the star solver working? if yes are running the solver from PROSTAR environment or outside it??

Hi, Ahmed:

Thank you very much for your help!

I followed the intructions exactly. First, after setting the event number, I load the geomtrical data and boundary data. Second step is to define boundaries and events. After that, I verified the events and they are OK since my mesh animation is perfect. Finally, I run "pmovlink" and "starlink" and get the executable file "star". After running "star", what I get is "tut.pst" instead of "tut.pstt". However, on the tutorial, it is said that "tut.pstt" should be generated at this step.

BTW, I ran the solver out of the PROSTAR enviroment as mentioned on the tutorial.

Thanks again and look forward to your further response.

Hi, Shenyuan,

The output to .pstt file is controlled by two prostar commands:

1. frequency control

LSTEP 1 360 CONS 1.6666E-4 N 0 5

The last integer 5 indicates that the results will be saved every 5 time steps.

2. output control (what to save)

CPOST Y Y N Y Y Y Y Y Y N Y

(u v w p k e t vis den)

Can you first check what happens when these commands are input in PROSTAR (there are part of prep.inp file).

If everything is OK, these information would also be in tut.run file:

MAX. NO. OF TIME STEPS ...... => 360

STARTING LOAD STEP NUMBER ... => 1

NUMBER OF TIME STEPS ...... => 360

TIME STEP SIZE ............ => DT = 1.666600E-04 s

RAMPING ................... => OFF

POST DATA FREQUENCY ....... => 5

CELL DATA SELECTED....... => U, V, P, TE, ED,TVI, T,DEN, H,

=> INTAKE

=> EXHAUST

PRINT DATA FREQUENCY ...... => 0

NO. OF FLUID MATERIALS ...... => 3

Re: PSTT File

First of all, Thank you very much for your help. After checking the frequence control and output control, I found that what I had are the same as you listed in prep.inp. As to tut.run, I also have everything, which are exactly the same as you listed except that there is no item for CELL DATA SELECTED in my file. However, I have the term which is:

| SOLVE . => U, V, P, TE, ED, T,VIS,DEN, | |(STATIC ENTHALPY, CHEMICO-THERMAL FORM SOLVED FOR)| | => INTAKE EXHAUST |

Is it the same as CELL DATA SELECTED?

Thanks again!

Re: PSTT File

ISOLVE controls what is solved for. CPOST controls what is put out on the PSTT file. Just because you solve for something does not mean necessarily that you want to save it for post-processing. You have the option of not saving things to cut down on disk space required.
