I've tried to install the MPICH variables under Linux. But unfortunately it is not clearly defined in the manual (p.3-3). I think I have to define the following variables: MPI_ROOT I guess: MPI_ROOT=/home/star/mpich ; export MPI_ROOT

PATH=$MPI_ROOT/bin:$PATH

but the other 2 are absolutely not clear MPI_ARCH ????? MPI_DEVICE ?????

Could someone help me with this matter ?

I remember that some script (mpirun?) describes those definations. It may even tell how to get the proper values for them. If I am right, you should "export MPI_ARCH=i386" for Linux on intel or compatible. Don't remember how to get MPI_DEVICE though. Cheers.

I am running parallel star on linux and had the same problem: After a consulatation with CD I set:

export MPI_ROOT=/usr/star-cd/v3150/mpp/mpich export MPI_DEVICE=ch_p4 export MPI_ARCH=LINUX

look in mpich sub directory lib and set MPI_ARCH to whatever directory is in there i.e. LINUX and in the LINUX directory there will be a sub dirctory which should be set to MPI_ARCH i.e. ch_p4.

you don't need to put these variables in your path.
