Dear all,

I have two questions which need your help. One is about the pro*am, the other is about how to model a moving slide valve which is used to cover a round pipe.

The first question is that I want to use pro*am to generate one model in which some parts are consisted of finer meshes and some parts are consisted of coarser meshes, but the changes should be gradual. However, I can't find some command or the corresponding GUI in pro*am to generate gradually variable meshes.(In prostar, I found some commands that provide fill ratio,ie., cgenerate). I want to know whether and how I can change the meshes density gradually.

The second question is that I want to generate a model which consists of a round pipe and a slide valve that has a hole whose diameter is the same as the pipe diameter. The slider vale moves to close or open the pipe. Before and after the slide valve, the pressure values in the pipe are different. I know I should use the moving meshes to realize the above goal, but because of the round shape, it is very hard for me to do it. How can I create the moving meshes to let the valve close and open the pipe? I am very appriciated that if you can provide a strategy to solve that problem!

Thank you very much for your help!

With best wishes, Lee

To question 1:

You need to use a custom mesh. But this means a lot of hand meshing. In that case, why should you use pro*am if you do not want to use local refinment? Pro*STAR should do it (even if hard and tedious for a newbee). The topics you described are part of a training course for STAR-CD beginners. So you'd better go onto it. That will help you to save time...

To question 2: That is a hard piece of work you want to do. In that case, I suppose you want to simulate the opening and the closing of a valve for a combustion engine. Check the tutorials of STAR-CD. The may give you an idea of how to realize it.
