Hi All,
Do you have any way to save the frames from starcd in good quality and then an automated procedure to create an .avi movie??? FOr instance a development of an isosurface, or similar things. Is it possible to create in starcd an .avi file or should it be done with a 3rd party software? Thanks in advance. |

After trying using the method in the manual, I finally gave up. Instead, now, what I do is go through and save each frame I want as a gif file. One can write a macro or users panel to do this rather easily. Then I use a third party software to convert the set of gifs to an avi. The one I use is "GIF Construction Set 32" which is shareware and may be downloaded from the internet. Tom

Another method is to loop through your frame, and plot every frame in a plot file, with term,,file, raster. Then you can create a numbered sequence of gif files with plot-gif. And you can use a software such as VirualDub to generate a high quality avi, of low file size. You may be surprised that the actual interface to generate movies within Star is more than six years old. And I do not know anybody using it.

You're right, VirtualDub is on Windows. I have the chance to have a PC workstation as well, to prepare my report, presentation, and to generate movies as well.
There is a freeware for Linux called whirlgif. It creates an animated gif. It is unfortunately as good as it got. I mean, an animated gif is not exactely the best movie format. If somebody finds a freeware for Linux to generate avi, I am also interested. |

Why not FTP your stills to a Windows box? Then you get to use Windows tools to make your movies or process further.
