outlet = inlet in a periodic geometry
 

Hi,

I have to model the flow in a static mixer. A static mixer has no moving parts. It is made of single elements fitted in a pipe. These elements are placed and rotated by 90° one after each other.

Then, every two elements, I have the same model to solve. In order to study a longer static mixer, I would like to mesh a static mixer with two elements and use the outlet of the first two elements as the inlet of the two following elements...

So, my questions are : - Is it possible to export the results of the first run in an output file and introduce it as the inlet of the next run (with BCDEFI?) - Is it necessary to have exactly the same mesh at the outlet and the inlet?(It is not the case in my model due to the rotation by 90°)

Why not just use cyclic boundaries in a single model?

I think it is a little bit complicated.

In Star-CD tutorials, cyclic boundaries are used if you have a symmetry in a pipe along the axial axis. In this case, it is possible to use cyclic boundary because the boundary conditions are the same and the flow profile is also the same.

In my case, I have a symmetry along the radial axis. Then, the flow profile at the inlet of my geometry and at the outlet are not the same. The only way I have to know the velocity profile at the outlet is to solve my model for two elements. Then, I would like to know how to export in a simple way this flow profile in an output file and how to introduce it at the inlet of the next two elements.

You can try saving velocity profile at outlet to .grf file and then converting it to a table (modifying by hand)
