Pro*AM meshing of external flows

Hello

I was wondering how to mesh an external flow using pro*am. I searched the Forum and found that I need to create a shell 'box' around the model I want to mesh.

So, if i have a .stl file, do I import it, create a new surface in pro*am and then make the shells using the star guide? And does it matter how big the shells are on the box faces?

Once the box is created, how do I select that it is the volume between it and the shape that is to be meshed, and not the imported .stl volume?

Thanks for the help everyone.

You don't need to generate an external box for external flows. In the "Advanced Options ..." of the Mesh generation panel, there's the option to flip shell orientation. This will generate a mesh on the outside of your surface, not on the inside.

ted, thanks a lot for the help.

So if I have something like a wing profile, and I flip the shell orientation, how do I control the shape of and how large the external flow domain becomes?
