How to save only a slice, not the whole data?

Hi, I am currently building a tube model for studying the jet flow. Its boundary changes with time. I need only a slice of data to analyze (namely, the cross section of the tube model), but with very small time step. If I save the whole model with every time step ( 1/10,000 s), the pstt file will be too huge. So, I want to know how I can save only a slice data of the model with very dense time steps.

Your suggestions will be highly appreicated.

Why don't you make the simulation on a slice only (instead of doing it fully 3D)? If you are performing a DNS and averaging over time and homogeneous directions, you should output the data you should in a given format (using the POSDAT.f subroutine) that you can postprocess afterwards. You can do a dump as often as you want and the data dump should be minimal.

Hope this helps.

Hi, 4xf, Thank you very much for your help. The reason I still use 3D is that I need more than one slice in different directions. I previously thought I could do it in GUI. Sigh, have to look at those subrotinues :)

Thank you very much Leon

Hi, 4xf it seems that posdat.f subrotinue is for data print. While I want to post data and save them as files, do I still need to use this subrotinue? Thanks Leon
