Segmentation Fault

Hi all,

I am running STAR on XP with exceed. When I open the help files in Adobe and run STAR at the same time it says "Segmentation fault" and all the windows related to STAR close. Does anybody know why this happens?

Thanks,

Regards,

Re: Segmentation Fault

I think S is write. In my experience a segmentation fault can mean any number of things and it's not always clear what exactly is causing the problem. Certain combinations of commands seem to cause proSTAR to fall over on my Windows XP machine. You may want to consider moving to Linux. You'll get all the latest updates first and have access to new technology like solving in proSTAR with ployhedrals which is not yet possible on Windows but is on Linux. STAR on Linux is generally less prone to errors than on Windows. Linux also makes full use of your RAM and better use of available processing power.

Re: Segmentation Fault

But LINUX will not remove all occurances of a segmantation faults. Usually segmentation faults are due to memory problems. That being said, it doesn't help solve them because I have found it to be a hit and miss search for the offender. I have found that adapco tech support is not very helpful either. The first question is always, what version are you using? If you are using anything other that version 4 they will say you need to upgrade - even though version 4 will not do E2P. Second question is, Have you tried rebooting the machine?
