How Star-cd v3.22 do parallelling computation?

The Star v3.22 in Window Xp can do parallelling computation in a single computer with Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU and 4GB Memory. It can't do parallelling computation through the 1Gbps network with 8 computers with the same hardwares. Now my question is: how can I do parallelling computation? could anyone tell me the detailed procedure of setting or setup for the parallelling computation through network!

step 1. Install Linux step 2. Install v3.26 step 3. Run your case....

The issue with Windows XP is that even if you do manage to set-up a parallel run over several machines (I don't know if it's possible with 3.22) it is arguably not worth the hassle. Windows XP is not designed for running parallel calculations, so it scales very poorly - ie running the case on 2 machines isn't much faster than running on 1. This is why Microsoft have developed the Compute Cluster Server (CCS).

Appreciating the precious advices from Ben,Nari and Dave, thank you very much.

What versions of STAR-CD could run well or better in the Widows System of Compute Cluster Server(CCS)?If we plan to do parallelling computation wiht STAR-CD or STAR-CCM+,what shall we do and how can we do in Windows system or CCS?

We just did computation in a single computer with STAR-CD 3.15 before,so I expect sincerely your precious advice on parallelling computation.

Thank you in advance!

Dave, in the Windows system of Compute Cluster Server (CCS),does it require us to do some special settings before do Parallelling computation? Thanks greatly!

This is the procedure to run V3.26 parallel. I not sure it work with 3.22 or not. You can use it as reference.

Procedure to run parallel under windows (distributed) is as follows:

-- Install cluster installation of STAR-CD on each machine other than master node. If no specific node is assigned as a master, install full STAR-CD on each machine in the cluster -- make sure all the nodes are on the network and talking to each other -- if the cluster installation is done on all the machine except master node, make sure to install MPICH and MKSTool kit separately on each node -- ALL the machines in the cluster have to have same login and password -- On EACH MACHINE, open a Command prompt, go to MPICH installation directory > mpd > bin and run the MPIRegister.exe Registration should have same login and passwd for each machine as that of the main login-passwd for those machines -- open starlaunch and run the job in parallel using multiple nodes with multiple processors

Good luck. Happy computing!

I think there is a CCS port of 3.26, have a chat to your friendly local support person

Re: How Star-cd v3.22 do parallelling computation?

STAR-CCM+ V2.08 (just released) supports CCS. I'm not 100% sure about STAR-CD. As Ben says, I think they're ports of 3.26 and 4 also run on CCS. I remember that CD-adapco were on Microsoft's stand at Supercomputing a year or two ago showing STAR-CD on CCS, so there must be a version somewhere.
