Hello! Has anyone used any CFD software to simulate E.D coating of a car BIW? If yes, can someone let me know what software, steady or transient, fluid properties, newtonian, or any other advise?

I believe this subject to presented at the last user conference in London. One of the German manufacturers.

Call CD-adapco on this one.

Regards

OK will check! In the meantime... is this type of analysis valid using CFD though? Electro-charged fluid... similar to plasma? Do we need a different code to do this reliably? How often is this ED simulation performed in industry or how reliable is it?

Thanks for your great responses on this website, Peter!

OK,

I remember the presentation as electro coating of a complete BIW and a separate animation of a truck cab in a dip tank. This was the keynote presentation at the 2007 London conference. The fifth photo in the gallery is clearly readable as DaimlerChrysler and paint coating is visible as well. I have just checked this by playing the conference proceedings on my machine.

Plasma coating is a different beast. I suspect that CD is probably sponsoring a Ph.D. somewhere on this subject. I can remember a conversation a few years ago with the former marketing director at CD London on this one. This conversation was based on plasma spraying of components in a vacuum.

Call adapco on this one.

Regards Peter
