Has anyone had the following error:

when the star solver is run, it goes through the initialization and somewhere in the first iteration, stops, and gives the following error message:

/usr/local/star/STAR/3.26.000/linux_2.4-ifc_7.0-glibc_2.2.2-dso/bin/star: line 4246: 8093 Killed $PNP_STARLOADER$PNP_EXE tail: cannot open `+2' for reading: No such file or directory PNP: Received [2006-07-30-16:24:45] SIGTERM from HOST "", ==> process-ID "task.pid". PNP: Received [2006-07-30-16:24:46] SIGKILL from HOST "leffe" TRACKER process-ID "8041". PNP: Shutdown [2006-07-30-16:24:47] Execution stopped due to process failure (SIGTERM) after 67 seconds (TOTAL ELAPSED TIME).

the line: "tail: cannot open `+2' for reading: No such file or directory" is giving the problem, but i don't know how to fix this.

can anyone help? my knowledge of linux is not the greatest...

1.use old tail version like 5.2.1

2. at /usr/local/star/etc/software.ini

find platform linux_x86 STAR=linux_2.4-ifc_7.0-glibc_2.2.2-dso or absoft ??

I do not think that tail is giving you the problem. Your problem is the line with "Killed". But for solving your problem you should give us some more informations about case, subroutines, LINUX distribution etc.

Have you tried running with the notracker option, i.e.

star -notracker ......

On my system leaving it on always results in a crash

Thanks for the responses everyone. to repsond briefly, James' comment about the star -notracker option worked.

Something else that worked for me was found by searching the internet and finding someone else who encountered the problem "tail:cannot open `+2' for reading". http://www.linuxgamepublishing.com/f...id=20&#faq_1_2 This person suggested that i run the command "export_POSIX2_VERSION=199209 " (don't forget the space at the end) in the same command line from which i call star. this works when i'm physically at the computer, but does not remotely.

Thanks again!
